Feeling nostalgic for a simpler time? Get out your hair gel and poodle skirts and join us as the Mackenzie Players hit the stage in a revival of the hit Broadway musical Grease. It’s 1958 and another school year is beginning at Rydell High. The 1950s high school dream is about to explode in this rollicking musical that is both an homage to the idealism of the fifties and a satire of high schoolers’ age-old desire to be rebellious. At the heart of the story is the romance between hot-rodding Danny Zuko and the sweet new girl in town, Sandy Dumbrowski. They had a secret romance in the summer, but when the school year begins, Danny is torn between his feelings for good-girl Sandy and his Greaser image with the T-Birds and the Pink Ladies. The whole gang sings and dances around Danny and Sandy’s romance as they navigate their teenage landscape. The songs which include the hits “Greased Lightnin'”, “We Go Together”, and “Mooning” recall the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. The show hits the Mackenzie stage on Wednesday, May 18 and Thursday, May 19 at 7:00. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults and will be sold in the school store as well as at the door. Hope to see you there!
