Introducing Child and Youth Worker – Latoya Clarke

We would like to welcome Child and Youth Worker (CYW) Latoya Clarke to Mackenzie. All secondary schools have received this additional support for students for the 2017-18 school year. Latoya comes to Mackenzie with a wealth of experience supporting students. She will be working with students one-on-one and in group settings. She will be focusing on social skills, life skills, well-being, career pathways and other areas to meet student needs. Latoya works in collaboration with admin, guidance and teachers.

Gr. 12 Workshops – “Strategies for Balance and Wellness”

Our guidance counsellors in partnership with TDSB social workers will be in Gr. 12 classrooms next week. They will be providing a workshop on issues particular to Gr. 12 students such as managing stress, and strategies for balance and wellness.  The transition to post-secondary and leaving high school will also be a focus. This workshop has been created specifically for Gr. 12 students at Mackenzie for the spring.

Supporting your Grieving Teen Presentation

Mackenzie is hosting a presentation for parents this Thursday, January 25th on the topic of “Supporting your Grieving Teen”.

Andrea Warnick, a registered psychotherapist whose specialty is supporting grieving children, youth and adults will be joining us. Andrea developed and teaches the Certificate Program in Children’s Grief and Bereavement at the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre in Toronto. This special presentation for parents and staff begins at 7:00 pm in the Mackenzie Library. We invite all interested parents who may be looking for strategies for supporting their child to attend.
